Every year, the population of Middle England gathers in the gardens of Blenheim Palace to queue, wave flags and taunt the French.

In a special Poshcast report I expose the truth behind this seemingly harmless event: the posh people of Britain are preparing to invade Europe. The Battle Proms were only a whisker away from becoming a nationalist rally, and by the end even I was caught up in a frenzied wave of French-burning fury.

Warning: this report is full of hideous racism, rousing music from the glory days of The Empire and Union Jack tablecloths.

This is our first foray into the world of the talking podcast (except for Tom, who has guested on several) and we tackled the challenge to the ground like explorers of old braving the unknown perils of a new, undiscovered land.

In case you’re wondering, the lunch was a rather splendid ratatouille-esque pasta dish followed by a selection of cheeses and dried fruits, and finished off with a packet of 2009 chocolate-covered Hob Nobs.
